The Dying Sport That Is Major League Baseball.

It’s sad to say, especially from a huge baseball person in myself, but the game of baseball is dying, and fast. Money hungry owners and players is what it comes down to. How many 100 million plus contracts have we seen in the last 2-3 years? A LOT! Now, it’s not all the players fault in this and I’m definitely not blaming them. I just think it has started to become more about how much can I make, rather than I’ll make this AND lead this organization to a World Series to make the fans and city happy. BUT, I live in a world where all that happens, and the harsh reality is it doesn’t. I also get that these players have a family to feed and people to support.

When you look at a fans perspective, I think while they sometimes ruin it for some, fans make sports. Without them (alla Covid-19) look at what those games didn’t have rather than what they DID have because they didn’t have anything! All they had was a sound guy making fake crowd noise, some cardboard cut outs and blanketed outfield seats with sponsors on them. THAT IS IT! Nobody was coming to buy your $9 beer, cheer on your HR hitters, your flamethrowers, and watch web gem type plays. It just wasn’t happening. Now, fast forward and players want HUGE deals, owners want to make their money back while negotiating payrolls (these owners are billionaires btw) and will all that going on, the players and MLB don’t agree with the state of the game. Which are all the rule changes that are to come in the next year, contracts, etc etc etc. NOBODY likes each other in Major League Baseball. It’s like that family get together over the holidays you never want to go to because not everyone gets along, but you have to go because it’s your family. It all needs to come to compromise, but once again these people don’t live in the perfect world I think of.

As it pertains to the how the game is played in 2022 and beyond, I’m so against speeding/changing up the game that once was baseball. All the greats that have gone before these new greats, are rolling in their graves. Lets just make a quick list of things we’ve seen and what’s yet to come: player x starts at 2B in extras, pitch clock, banning the shift, DH in both leagues (which I love), and maybe I’m missing a few minor ones but the two biggest NOs for me is, extra inning rule and pitch clock. How do you even regulate a pitch clock!? “Sorry man you didn’t get the pitch within 20 seconds that’s a ball.” If you can’t get a pitch in within 20 seconds, I don’t think you should be playing. Now, I do think this wont be a problem due to the new system of relaying signs to the pitcher from the catcher. I think this helps a lot and I’m here for that. Not sure who’s idea it was but I would like to thank that person. I do wonder when it will become an issue as technology goes out and takes “time” to get fixed. This also would slow the game down to those who want it sped up.

All in all I will forever love the game that is Baseball. Even with all the changes the game is beautiful in its most rare form. We have pitchers that throw 95+, guys who can hit 450+ nukes, insane defensive gems! Those of which make this game so awesome. Here’s to all the baseball lovers out there who love the game as much as I do.

Cheers, to our $9 beers.
